SUMMARY:Shag Harbour UFO Festival
DESCRIPTION:Annual festival (in 2019\, October 4–6). \n5615 Highway 3\, Shag Harbour\, South Shore \nThe Shag Harbour Incident Interpretive Centre\, located in the fishing village of Shag Harbour along the South Shore\, chronicles the sighting of a UFO which crashed into the waters of Shag Harbour leaving no trace other than yellow foam. \n\n\nVisitors to the Centre can view television documentaries\, newspaper articles\, other memorabilia\, and an exhibit on outer space. After a tour of our centre\, visitors can browse through our gift shop. The UFO Gazebo and picnic site can be found about 3 minutes up the road from the Centre\, where visitors can look out on the ocean to the location the object crashed in 1967. \n\nBus tours are welcome. \n

SUMMARY:Alexander Keith's birthday
DESCRIPTION:Alexander Keith (5 October\, 1795 – 14 December\, 1873) was the founder of Alexander Keith’s Brewery\, a businessman\, and politician. After learning the brewing trade from his uncle in Northern England\, Keith immigrated to Halifax\, Nova Scotia in 1817 and became manager at a brewery\, which he bought out in 1820. In 1822 he moved the brewery to larger facilities\, and built a new brewery in 1836.  In 1842 he served as a commissioner of public property and in 1843 was selected mayor of Halifax. He continued as a member of council until he again served as mayor\, by election\, in 1853 and 1854. \n

DESCRIPTION:The municipality runs elections for Mayor and Council\, as well as the Conseil scolaire acadien provincial. \nOn Saturday\, October 5\, 2019 there will be a special election in HRM District 15\, Lower Sackville to fill the vacant Council seat. Advance polling dates will be Saturday\, September 28\, 2019 and Tuesday\, October 1\, 2019. \nA list of declared candidates will be published by the Election Office and will be updated daily. \nThis election will be entirely electronic. All votes will be cast either online or by telephone. The Advance Polling Period will begin on September 28\, 2019\, opening online and telephone voting. The advance polling dates and election day will provide physical polling locations for voters. Votes will still be cast electronically\, but elections staff will be on hand to provide the technology and support. \nStarting on August 8\, 2019\, residents can call 902-490-VOTE (8683) to ensure they are on the voters’ list. \n

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a night of fun with Glow in the Park – a free walk/run for the whole family! Participants can choose to do one or two loops of the 1.5 km route\, or just enjoy our other activities. \nActivities along the run/walk route include a dance zone\, camp fire zone\, and color powder zone. Before\, during\, and after the event\, we’ll also have an obstacle course\, face painting\, glow powder station\, blacklight photo bomb tent\, night fever dance floor with DJ\, and a fireworks show to end the night! \nDate: Oct. 5\, 2019\nLocation: Sir Sanford Fleming Park\, Dingle Rd\, Halifax\nTime: 6 – 9 p.m.\nGlow gear for the first 250 participants!
