A Halifax kayaker will paddle for a medal in the men’s 200-metre singles kayak event at the Rio Olympics tomorrow.

Mark de Jonge just clinched a spot in the finals after a dramatic race this morning.

A photo finish was needed to determine who grabbed the fourth and final qualifying spot in the semifinal, which was stacked with several of the fastest paddlers.

Fortunately for the Canadian, the photo determined that he edged Marko Novakovic of Serbia by just three hundredths of a second.
