Safety questioned at Waterville Youth Facility

The head of the government employees union wants improvements to safety and staffing at the Waterville Youth Facility in light of the rioting on the weekend. Four staffers were taken to hospital with minor injuriesw after four youth attacked them. One of the young offenders was also treated and released.

NSGEU President Jason MacLean says youth workers should not fear for their lives when they go to work. The union wants a thorough debriefing and consultation along with recommendations on how to improve safety. He said there has been a steady increase in the number of violent offenders at the facility over the years and a deterioration of the number of staff and safety proceedures.
