Truro police criticized in child’s death investigation

Truro Police have been heavily criticized in an independant review into the death of a three year old girl in 2005.

The report says the investigation was badly bungled, including police not getting a warrant to search a suspect’s residence.

Samantha Mercer died in 2005. Her mother’s boyfriend was aquitted of manslaughter in 2009.

Among the recommendations…that the Justice Department conduct regular audits of municipal police services and ensure small ones have ready access to trained support and assistance.
