More money for frontline healthcare

The Health Authority is getting $3.6 million from the McNeil Government to hire 22 new nurse practitioners and family practice nurses across the province.  Nurse practitioners can diagnose patients, order and interpret tests, and prescribe some medications. Family practice nurses assess, make referrals, plan care and evaluate treatment response.  The hires will give 14,000 more people access to primary healthcare.

Seven of the new hires will be in H-R-M, Sheet Harbour and West Hants.
