Woman in hospital unshackled

Justice minister Diana Whalen says shackles have been removed from a hospitalized woman who is facing deportation to England.

Whalen says this came after a review of guidelines in such cases. The 33 year old woman had been shackled to her bed after being rushed from a jail facility in Dartmouth to hospital last month for a series of surgeries. She’s facing deportation to England once she’s better.

Health Minister Leo Glavine says he was appalled when he heard of the case…said it brings to mind the 19th century not the 21st.
