Dartmouth North Walk Against Violence

Hundreds of people are expected to gather tomorrow outside the Dartmouth Boys and Girls Club on Farrell Street for the 17th Annual Dartmouth North Walk Against Violence.

The volunteer-organized walk is a stirring show of solidarity against crime and violence drawing together area residents, community workers, members of the Dartmouth Boys and Girls Club and a contingent of Halifax Regional Police officers including Insp. Don Moser, East Divisional Commander, investigators from the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division and community officers from Dartmouth.

The annual walk began in 2000 to commemorate the life of Jason MacCullough who was murdered on a pathway between Joseph Young Street and Pinecrest Drive on August 28, 1999. The case remains unsolved. People in the neighbourhood who can’t attend the walk are asked to leave their porch lights on in a show of support for the participants.
