Another Oland appeal

A week after he was released on bail, Dennis Oland and his lawyers will be back in a courtroom today…this one at the Supreme Court of Canada. The Court will consider the law surrounding requests for bail pending appeals in murder cases. That has never been granted in New Brunswick and only a couple of dozen times in Canada.

The Court of Appeal overturned Oland’s conviction last week and he was released on bail while awaiting a new trial. However, legal experts say the Supreme Court still wants to hear the arguments and may offer guidelines on when such bail should be granted.
