Alton gas protest

Mi’kmaq and other protestors gathered at the only entrance to the Alton gas protest in Fort Ellis yesterday. About 20 people continue to protest the plans to dump brine from salt caverns into the Shubenacadie River.

Alton Gas contacted RCMP and a special negotiator came out to talk to the protestors but there was no really visible RCMP presence.

Cheryl Maloney, a Mi’kmaq activist, says the protesters are hoping to hear from government or company officials today.
