Health Authority to hire 22 new nurse practitioners, family practice nurses

The Nova Scotia Health Authority is getting $3.6 million to hire 22 new nurse practitioners and family practice nurses across the province. Nurse practitioners can diagnose patients, order and interpret tests, and prescribe medication. Family practice nurses assess, make referrals, plan care and evaluate treatment response. The hires will give 14,000 more people access to primary healthcare.
