Murder conviction overturned…again

The Court of Appeal has thrown out a first degree murder conviction against Steven Gareau…again. The Ottawa man was convicted of murdering Sean Simmons. The Chronicle Herald reports the court has ordered a third trial.

Simmons was apparently killed for having an affair with the girlfriend of a Hell’s Angel member.

The Court of Appeal said the judge made mistakes by allowing certain evidence and vacated the conviction. Gareau was initially convicted of the  murder in 2004 but that was thrown out eight years later because of mistakes by another judge. A jury found him guilty again in 2014.
