Soldier’s Memorial

Dozens of boot prints burned into a boardwalk on the Halifax waterfront symbolize the steps of Canadian soldiers who set off to fight in the First World War and never came back.

It’s part of a memorial unveiled yesterday that features a wooden arch bearing the words “The Last Steps.”

Designed by artist Nancy Keating, the memorial pays tribute to the departure of the first full battalion of Nova Scotia soldiers to fight in the Great War.
