A special weather statement is in effect for: Halifax Metro and Halifax County West.
A low pressure system approaching from New England will spread rain from west to east across mainland Nova Scotia beginning this morning and reaching Cape Breton Island by tonight.
Rainfall amounts of 25-35 millimetres are expected, but could reach or exceed 50 millimetres locally.
The areas of highest risk are along the Atlantic Coasts of Mainland Nova Scotia, and Cape Breton.
Rainfall warnings may be required later today.
In addition, strong southeasterly winds gusting to 80 kilometres per hour are expected along much of the Atlantic coast of mainland Nova Scotia and Cape Breton Island; beginning this afternoon in the west and moving east to Cape Breton tonight.
These winds may reach or exceed 90 kilometres per hour, in which case wind warnings will be issued.
