Canada Day at Halifax Citadel
Halifax Citadel National Historic Site 5425 Sackville St, Halifax, NS. July 1 Celebrate Canada's 152nd birthday. It all starts at noon with the firing of the iconic noon gun, followed by the traditional 21 gun salute near the main entrance. This free event will feature Canada Day cake.

On July 1, 1867, Canada became a self-governing dominion of Great Britain and a federation of four provinces: Nova Scotia; New Brunswick; Ontario; and Quebec. The anniversary of this date was called Dominion Day until 1982. Since 1983, July 1st has been officially known as Canada Day. This year July 1 falls on a Monday, in 2020 July 1 falls on a Wednesday. Incorporated July 1, 1980. Bedford is a suburban community of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. It was an independent town from 1980 to 1996. The area of Bedford has evidence of indigenous peoples dating back thousands of years. Amalgamated April 1, 1996. The March 23, 1997 issue of Maclean's magazine rated Bedford as being the "Best Community to Live in Canada."
