NATAL DAY

Natal Day is a public holiday in Nova Scotia, where it is a day off for the general population, and schools and most businesses are closed. The Halifax-Dartmouth Natal Day events were cancelled last summer. The Natal Day committee looks forward to hosting the annual event in 2021 and celebrating over 125 years of Natal Day.

Rocky Johnson (born Wayde Douglas Bowles; August 24, 1944 – January 15, 2020) was a Canadian professional wrestler born in Amhurst NS. Among many National Wrestling Alliance titles, he was the first black Georgia Heavyweight Champion. He won the World Tag Team Championship in 1983, along with his partner Tony Atlas, to become the first black champions in WWE history. He is the father of actor and former WWE wrestler Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

Nathan Raymond MacKinnon (born September 1, 1995) is a Canadian professional ice hockey center and alternate captain of the Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League (NHL). MacKinnon was born in Springhill, NS and grew up playing in the minor ice hockey system of Cole Harbour. Considered one of the best players in the league, MacKinnon was selected first overall by the Avalanche in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

CANADA DAY

On July 1, 1867 Canada became a new federation with its own constitution by signing the Constitution Act - formerly known as the British North America Act. HAPPY 52nd BIRTHDAY! The A. Murray MacKay Bridge, known locally as "the new bridge", is a suspension bridge linking the Halifax Peninsula with Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and opened on July 10, 1970. It is one of two suspension bridges crossing Halifax Harbour, its counterpart, the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge, having been completed in 1955. The bridge carries on average 52,000 vehicle crossings per day, and is part of Nova Scotia Highway 111.
